It’s frustrating, because the team and Maxis / EA could have had a smash-hit here. How can this be? Did the developers not playtest the game? Do they not realize the camera is broken? If that weren’t enough, the most critical visual component in the game is broken: the camera. This is a legendary trait of any Maxis game, but this time it’s really something else. The loading screens take forever when you first start the game. While the game looks good and runs pretty well, it doesn’t really make up for the issues here. You don’t have to babysit them all the time, and while that might be good for some, it still takes away the player’s control. The avatars are now much more competent than they were in the last game. The whole point of the game is to have complete control over the life of the Sim, so why take any of that control away from the player? That was one of the most iconic things about the franchise up until now and it’s a curious thing to remove. ![]() You can’t make pools and you can’t toss your Sims in, remove the ladders, and wait for them to doggy-paddle themselves into an early grave. You can share creations of your with other players online, and the detail work that’s gone into some of the objects in this game is incredible.īut you could be forgiven for thinking that there should be more in Sims 4 than there were in any of the previous games. As ever, there’s a lot that you can buy for your Sims, from stove tops to guitars and everything in between. The premise is the same: create your avatar, build your dream house, fall in love, watch your children grow - choose your life. There are a few issues that I am still experiencing as highlighted above, that I hope EA will iron out pretty quick. The greatest micro simulation game is back. Mac users can now rejoice and play alongside PC simmers without having to use Windows. I have always said that waiting for a decent Mac port is always worth it and that has been the case with The Sims 4. In terms of lag, the game will go from buttery smooth to being extremely laggy and slow, which is sometimes resolved by restarting the game. Although it’s as if the game struggles when the camera is facing a certain way on some lots/in some neighbourhoods. I am yet to identify anything that is triggering this but it continues even if I lower the graphics settings.Īs I said at the start, The Sims 4 on Mac is a solid port which I am extremely happy to see. Graphical issues have included the world suddenly flashing black and a radiation of black coming from a specific area covering the screen (recreated in the picture below). While I mostly have positive things to say about The Sims 4 on Mac, there are a few problems that I have encountered while playing the game, mainly graphical glitches and enormous lag spikes. ![]() This is on my Late 2012, 21.5-inch iMac with a 512mb GDDR5 NVIDIA graphics card with settings on high and objects on medium. The game starts up quickly from Origin, the game is buttery smooth (most of the time) and I achieve a steady 30-50 frames per second while playing, depending on what I am doing. Many Mac users resorted to playing Sims 3 on Bootcamp (which allows you to run Windows) on their Macs, however I’m confident that Mac users will not even have to think about doing this with The Sims 4! By that I mean the performance is on-par with the Windows version of the game which I truly didn’t expect following Sims 3 on Mac. Thankfully, The Sims 4 for Mac is a solid port. So the question on every Mac user’s mind is… will Sims 4 on Mac be the same? The Sims 3 used ‘Cider’ to act as a Windows wrapper which unfortunately led to many problems for Mac users and extremely slow performance. Ports are always a tricky things with games – you can either use emulation technology, such as Cider, or produce a native port (coding from the ground up) for the operating system. ![]() The Sims 4 has finally arrived for Mac users! If you own a copy of The Sims 4 on PC then you are automatically entitled to the Mac version of the game on Origin.
